THE STORY

WHY THIS WALL

When Harbors Vintage had its shop in Waikīkī, the store invited Trysen and his friend, artist Yuki Umi, to take over the space for a pop-up. Together they painted a collaborative canvas inspired by Lēʻahi (Diamond Head): Trysen painted the crater rising in the background at sunset, and Yuki drew a Moomin in the foreground painting a wall, a nod to the two artists' own work.

Trysen painted live in the shop during the event and hand-lettered a "Harbors Vintage / Yuki Umi × TRYS" sign for the entrance, which Yuki then added her own touches to. He also designed and set up a window display of TRYS prints, hats and merch facing the street, so people walking through Waikīkī could see the work from the sidewalk.

The project shows how the studio brings a retail space to life: a shared artwork, live painting that draws people in, and a display that keeps working after the event ends.
