Drive With Aloha × Keep It Flowing Media
Subcontracted muralist: Trysen painted the realistic birds on Keep It Flowing Media's Drive With Aloha mural at Kauaʻi High, twelve years after his first wall on the same campus.
WHY THIS WALL
In 2025, Drive With Aloha brought a large safe and sober driving mural to the R Building at Kauaʻi High School, part of a statewide program that has placed murals at schools across Hawaiʻi. The project was led by Keep It Flowing Media, the company of Trysen's longtime mentor, Ken "East3" Nishimura, and East3 brought Trysen on as a subcontracted artist.
Trysen's part was the realism. He painted the native and island birds that move through the wall in full detail: a pueo gliding over the Drive With Aloha lettering, an ʻio soaring under the eaves, and a moa rooster with his chicks standing in the grass, painted so each one reads like it could lift off the block.
The wall closed a circle. Trysen painted his first public mural at Kauaʻi High as a senior in 2013, with East3 as his mentor. Twelve years later he came back to the same campus, working for that same mentor, and signed the mural's heart "Trysen Kaneshige '13" beside students, teachers and the Leadership Kauaʻi Class of 2025, whose members volunteered on the wall.
