What is Island Guardians?
Island Guardians is an original character based art and storytelling project created by Kaua‘i-born artist and designer Trysen Kaneshige, founder of Inspire To Create Media LLC. Blending visual art, native species, Hawaiian values, and interactive technology, Island Guardians introduces a new mythos of guardians who protect the land, spirit, and people through kuleana, creativity, and healing.
Each Guardian shares a message from emotional resilience to environmental awareness told through murals, apparel, QR-code portals, and future collectables.This project is a bridge between generations. It inspires youth, uplifts community stories, and reclaims visual space through meaning and mana.
Featured Guardian
Lani the Pueo
The Watcher Between Worlds.
Wise, quiet, and sharp-eyed, Lani is the first of the Island Guardians. An ʻaumakua who watches over moments of transformation. Lani brings messages of clarity, courage, and stillness before the leap.
Inspired by the endangered Hawaiian short-eared owl (Pueo), Lani appears on murals, apparel, and digital storytelling pages, each one unlocking a part of the lore.
How It Works
Art & Lore: Each guardian is brought to life through original illustration and narrative design
QR Technology: Murals and stickers include QR codes that unlock digital lore portals
Apparel & Collectables: Shirts, stickers, and drops feature guardian art with affirmation messages
Community Impact
Guardians can appear in schools, healing spaces, and cultural installations
